If I had to guess, I would say that the recent Ashley Madison business has got you thinking about the logistics of having a mistress and as you know in exchange for being unfaithful you get free lifetime reliability on any Jaguar product. Same here, granted it’s usually the later XJs, but I do like them. I don’t know, I always thought of the XJ similar to Cadillac’s Deville series. Both cars have their distinct styling, both are known for ride comfort, both are known as the stereotypical cars of the brand, both are the most popular and well known, both are driven by either old guys or organized crime bosses, the only difference is a Jag handles better and Cadillac is more reliable. Something I always observed anyway.

I like the later ones too, especially the daimler Double-Sixes. There is something effortless about it, like it isn’t trying to be expensive or fancy, it just is, it always will be.

Thats a good reason, but the thing is, I’m fascinated by all XJs, not just the classic ones, even the ones you can get for $2000 on CL.

Maybe because they’re the closest thing you can get to a Citroen? Pretty, classy, characterful, superb ride, engineering that’s different for the sake of being different, perhaps not as reliable as they should be...

Try shaking some cheap cigarette ash (aka French Fairy Dust) all over the offending component. Gauloises or Gitanes are preferred, but Camels will do at a pinch. Much cheaper than a mistress, and hopefully it’ll convince it you have a French mechanic.
